Hi, my name is Sharon Williams. I am the principal of McGavock Elementary School in Nashville, TN. My goal for our students at McGavock Elementary School is for them to have the highest level of educational opportunities in an inviting and exciting learning environment. I believe that all people can learn, all people should have an equal opportunity to learn, all people want to learn and be guided in finding knowledge, and that all people have unique talents and gifts that should be respected and valued when entering an educational setting.
It has been my honor to serve as principal for three years. Prior to my tenure as principal at McGavock, I was an assistant principal at Mt. View Elementary School and taught at Kirkpatrick Enhanced Option School and Haywood Elementary School in Nashville. I also taught for a year and a half in Memphis, TN. My professional career began as a Social Worker with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. I am a graduate of the University of Memphis where I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work, and Masters of Teaching Degree. I completed my Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration from Tennessee State University where I also complete the Educational Specialist Degree.
In the past few years I have participated in several programs that have allowed me to grow as an administrator and taught me many things about our world. I have participated in the Principals’ Leadership Academy of Nashville (PLAN) and was in the first co-hort to complete the Educational Leadership Learning Exchange (ELLE) with South China Normal University in Guangzhou, China. Most recently I traveled to Argentina for a three week Administrative Exchange sponsored by the Fulbright Commission.
In addition to traveling, I enjoy reading, listening to music, cheering for the Tennessee Titans, playing tennis, and enjoying nature and time with my family.
